Kalam sits high in the upper Swat valley, surrounded by pine forest, glaciers and alpine lakes. It is a long day from Islamabad, so most visitors stay at least one night.

The route to Kalam
Follow the Swat road to Mingora, then continue north through Madyan and Bahrain along the Swat river to Kalam. The road is paved but busy in summer, with landslides possible after heavy rain.

Where to stay in Kalam
Kalam has many hotels and guesthouses along the river, including some with riverside terraces. Rooms fill up in July and August, so book early. We are an independent car with driver service, not a hotel agent: confirm rooms and rates with the hotel.
Best time to go
May to September is the main season. Winter brings snow to the upper valley and can close roads, so ask before travelling.
